DIY (no-sew) Duct Tape Crayon Roll
I am so excited to share this tutorial for a DIY Crayon Roll using Scotch Colors & Patterns Duct Tape! With all their fun patterns and colors, the possibilities are endless. You might just want to make lots of these!
Gather up all your supplies (or you can run around finding things while making it like I usually do). You will need a couple rolls of Scotch Colors & Patterns Duct Tape (I used a pattern roll and a coordinating color roll), a cutting mat is helpful, a ruler/tape measure, scissors/razor/cutting tool of some sort, ribbon in a coordinating color and a pen to mark your measurements.
1) Take one roll of your Scotch Colors & Patterns Duct Tape and cut 3 7" strips & attach them by slightly overlapping them to stick together.
2) Take the other (in my case, patterned) roll of Scotch Colors & Patterns Duct Tape and cut 3 7" strips. Place sticky sides together to cover.

2) Take the other (in my case, patterned) roll of Scotch Colors & Patterns Duct Tape and cut 3 7" strips. Place sticky sides together to cover.
4) Measure 6" across and cut. Then 4.5" down and cut.
5) Now you should have a 6" x 4.5" piece. Patterned on one side...
...and solid on the other (depending on your style).
7) Cut 4-5 3/4" wide strips of any tape (you won't be able to see them in the end). These will form the pockets for the crayons. (This is where the video comes in handy for explaining.)
8) Leaving a slight sticky section showing, place the small strips with sticky sides facing together. The sticky spaces will allow the pockets to be separate. Make sure to leave a little sticky section for the edges too.
(I left a little sticky strip for the edges too - shown by the arrows.)
9) Turn your piece over and trim or fold over the edges.
10) Cut a piece of ribbon about 16-18" long and fold in half. Cut a small strip of tape and attach at the folded part of the ribbon. Tape onto your crayon roll right above where your pocket strip is.
11) Now we are going to tape the bottom of where the pockets are so the crayons don't fall out. Cut a strip of the patterned tape a little longer than 6" and stick just over the bottom part of the crayon holder strip. (again, the video helped explain better) Fold it over to the back. You can also trim it so it doesn't fold over so much in the back. Up to you, but it must fold over a little to keep those crayons in!
12) Put your crayons in! See how the pockets look?
13) Voila! Your very own, no sew, easy peasy crayon roll! I made 4! Yep...and more will be made for sure!
Roll it up...
...and tie with a bow!
Guess what! It's waterproof too. Boo-ya! Now if that sippy cup leaks all over the diaper bag, just wipe it off with a paper towel. Bam! Good as new!
I also made a video tutorial for y'all and I was a little nervous about being on camera so please, be easy on me! :)
It was so fun to make and I hope you get a chance to make one too.

ReplyDeleteI tried making my own version of this project for pens, as a gift for a friend of mine; and by the time I was done, I decided I'm going to make one for myself to store my colored pencils.
ReplyDeleteno more taping them into the original plastic thing-y! :P Thanks for the clear instructions on the video!
Thank you for your clear instructions in the video! I made my own slightly revised version of this for pens. :P I just made the back with 4 strips of ductape instead of 3, and made the pocket part with 2 strips so it would be a little taller. Thank you for the inspiration!
