DIY Paint Palette

We absolutely love to paint & enjoy trying different ways to paint too. This DIY Paint Palette was definitely a new and exciting tool to use at our art easel. Check out how we made our Paint Palette:

-bottle caps (the reduced water bottle caps will be ok, but the regular size work best)
-tacky glue or hot glue (or strong tape)

Draw an outline of a palette on the cardboard & cut it out. No worries if you aren't an artist. Your kid won't really care what it looks like!

Hot glue your bottle caps around and you're done!

Fill with your little artists color choices and point them to the easel.

Now, here's the reason I said that the reduced cap may not be the best choice over soda bottle or full size caps...

Nothing spilled out when she tipped it (and you know your kiddo will tip it)!

How fun, right?! I know you're about to run off and grab those caps off the soda bottles...but I'd love for you to leave a quick comment and let me know what you think. I love, love, love hearing from y'all!

We have many fun ideas to share.

  1. I think I would make the main palette out of plastic, like the cover of an old plastic binder so this could be washed and reused. Otherwise it's a fantastic idea!

  2. This is genius! Excellent idea!

  3. This is such a fun, easy way to create! I love it!

  4. Are you serious! This is genius. I'm pinning this diy paint palette! Thanks so much for sharing at Mom's Library.

  5. Oh my gosh!! This is awesome! I was just thinking the other day of ways to make a homemade paint palette. My son has seen others use them on some YouTube Art For Kids movies and wanted to have one. I'm so excited because I already have all the supplies needed for your idea. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I just complained that I loaned my palette to some one and never got it back! I am totally going to do something like it but I don't know if I want my little guy holding it so we will see :)

  7. Thank you for the great idea. I just made mine out of cardboard and pediasure bottle caps.
